Invasive Species Removal for Earth Day

Invasive Honeysuckle Pull Along Palatine Park Trail

Sustainable Germantown and the town maintenance crew will continue trail care on Saturday April 20th from 10-1 with an all-ages volunteer and learning opportunity concentrating on invasive honeysuckle. Ecological Landscape Designer and Germantown volunteer Barbara Hughey will lead the group through proper identification and removal of this prolific understory shrub. We will then plant appropriate native species seeds in the disturbed soil.

Please come lend a hand! Participants are encouraged to bring any hand gardening tools they are comfortable with as well as sturdy shoes, gloves, and water.

Earth Day with GSC Elementary Students

Also, in honor of Earth Day, Germantown elementary school students will learn about the plants growing along the palatine park nature trail on Friday, April 19th. Building upon work started last year, the students will learn to identify and pull European garlic mustard. Reducing this invasive species will help other native ephemerals prosper.
