Clean Heating & Cooling

Launch of the Capital Region Clean Heating & Cooling Campaign

The past few months Sustainable Germantown, in partnership with the Columbia County Climate Smart Task Force, the Town of Germantown, and Heat Smart Capital Region launched a Clean Heating & Cooling Campaign, educating the public about the virtue of heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and general energy efficiency. If the campaign succeeds in recruiting 5 households to use heat pumps--and we've already recorded 3--the town will be eligible for a $5000 grant from NYSERDA to use towards municipal energy improvements.

How to Take Advantage of This Program

We had an information session on March 23rd, where the Capital Region Clean Energy Hub gave a presentation on the various NYSERDA's programs that provide low and middle income residents with assistance with energy audits, insulation retrofits and even heat pump systems.   This stressed the importance of  an energy audit, a primary step necessary before installing heat pumps, especially if you are retrofitting an older home. If you would like to learn more about these programs and be connected to people who can help visit The Capital Region's Website.

Already Have a Heat Pump Installed in Your Home?

If you have installed a heat pump within the town limits since December 22nd, 2022 with a NYSERDA participating contractor. Please let us know at climatesmartgermantown@gmail.com so your installation can count towards our goal.  The campaign will run through the entirety of 2023.
